The GACDL community sends thoughts of peace and comfort to his family and friends. The Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (GACDL) said in a statement its members were “shocked and saddened to hear the news of Page Pate’s passing. Pate was a trusted legal voice for many local and national media organizations, including CNN, where he appeared frequently to provide insight and perspective as a criminal defense and constitutional law attorney on high-profile cases. He graduated with honors from the University of Georgia Law School in 1994. “Some of Page’s happiest moments were on trips with his sons, whether long hikes on the West Coast or taking in Nascar races,” said the statement from his law firm.

He was also “a founding member of the Georgia Innocence Project” and “a member of the Federal and Atlanta Bar Associations, the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association,” along with “numerous other organizations dedicated to advancing justice and the legal profession.”

Pate’s law firm, Pate, Johnson & Church, described him as a trial lawyer of more than 25 years. “I don’t have direct information whether they were together and got drawn out,” added DiCristofalo. Gould’s Inlet beach is known for its rip currents, according to DiCristofalo. While they were heading to the scene, the water rescue team learned that “the adolescent victim reached shore safely,” DiCristofalo said.Ī rescue boat pulled Pate from the water and took him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, DiCristofalo said. Simons Island, Georgia, Glynn County Fire-Rescue acting Chief Vinnie DiCristofalo told CNN.įirst responders received a call about “two swimmers in distress” at Gould’s Inlet beach, just after 2 p.m., said DiCristofalo, who confirmed the two swimmers were Pate and his son. What happened that moment in the film was real. While he leaves an incredible legacy, he’ll always be “Shoeless Joe Jackson” in my heart. Costner had this to say on Twitter:ĭevastated to hear the news of Ray Liotta’s passing. Liotta received a nice tribute from his "Field of Dreams" co-star Kevin Costner. You'll always be remembered, Ray, and you'll always be missed. Some other notable films include "Unlawful Entry", where he plays the psycho cop in love with Kurt Russell's wife, Madeleine Stowe.Ģ001's "Silence of the Lambs" sequel, "Hannibal"(where Hannibal the Cannibal fries up and eats a piece of Liotta's brain while he's still alive-yuck!), 2001's Johnny Depp-starring "Blow", 2007's "Wild Hogs", 1998's "The Rat Pack"(where Liotta played Frank Sinatra!), 2002's "Narc", 1997's "Cop Land"(one of my favorite Liotta performances alongside one of my favorite Sylvester Stallone performances), and the list goes on. Those roles already mentioned may be the ones he's most famous for, but Liotta has turned in a solid body of acting work.

It's certainly in my top three, I can tell you that. Sure, Joe Pesci and Robert DeNiro's performances were more "showy", but Liotta's intensity(especially in the film's second half) grounded the movie.Īnother classic performance was Liotta's turn as Shoeless Joe Jackson in 1989's "Field of Dreams", which many cite as their favorite baseball movie. Other notable film roles include 1990's "Goodfellas", where he played Henry Hill.

Liotta doesn't even appear in the movie until almost the halfway point, but he made the most of his role and, in my opinion, totally stole the movie from co-stars Melanie Griffith and Jeff Daniels. I never caught Ray on the soaps, so I think my first time seeing him was in the 1986 movie "Something Wild". Liotta was a soap opera actor when he first started out, on the daytime drama "Another World". Speaking personally, I was always a fan of his acting. Again, Liotta passed away in his sleep, but no word yet on the cause of death.
